Course Details

Do you get nervous just thinking about the “big trip”?

Don’t know where to start?

Remove the fear of the unknown and get the skills and confidence to ride off the beaten track from riders that have done it before.


HART’s Adventure 1 day course is about getting you comfortable and confident on your dual-sport or adventure bike and giving you the skills and know how to get out there. This course is run over 1 day and is conducted at HART's Somerton facility and covers essential skills for adventure touring. 

By utilising HART’s purpose built training centre at Somerton, we are able to make the course suitable for all skill levels, from the novice to experienced adventurer. HART has a limited number of off-road motorcycles that can be hired for use on the course.


What you will learn


  • Bike set-up – adjusting your bike for improved control and comfort, including crash protection, accessories & luggage.

  • Using your body to maximise control of the bike.

  • Braking – stopping quickly on asphalt and gravel surfaces and controlling skids.

  • Techniques for tackling obstacles such as logs.

  • Low speed control and balance, including u-turns on uneven terrain.

  • Ascending and descending hills, including how to recover if you get into trouble.

  • Using the throttle to help control the bike.

  • Safely picking up a fallen motorcycle.

To maximise the practice and feedback provided to each rider, there is a student to instructor ratio of 5 students per instructor. The maximum group size is 10 participants.


The Instructors

 Our instructors have extensive experience adventure touring including:

  • Riding 2 up from Vladivostok to St Petersburg, Russia, via the infamous Road of Bones.
  • Touring through Scandinavia, Europe, Iceland, Northern Canada and Newfoundland & Labrador.

  • The Simpson Desert, both solo and with a small group.

  • Flinders ranges, Big Desert & Little Desert.

  • Cape York and the Telegraph track.

HART’s Somerton site has been purpose built for motorcycle training and include many features that are ideal for off-road and adventure riding;


  • Numerous logs of varying sizes ranging from 10cm all the way up to 40cm.

  • Hills of various sizes and grades.

  • 10,400m2 asphalt range

  • 200,000m2 of off road training area

  • 150m2sand pit

  • Over 2kms of trails

  • Jumps, berms and ruts


What this means for you is that you can be confident that you will have top quality instruction and be the best rider you can be.



  • A restricted or full motorcycle Licence
  • Riders on a restricted licence must ride a LAMS approved motorcycle.

Using your own motorcycle

  • This course is open to riders of all motorcycle brands, this is not a Honda only course.
  • Your motorcycle must have full registration and be roadworthy.

  • We recommend your bike be fitted with hand guards, bash plate and off-road tyres.

  • All motorcycles will be checked for roadworthiness before the commencement of the course. Motorcycles not meeting RWC will not be allowed to be used on the course and the course fees may be forfeited.

  • Please advise your insurer of the training you will be undertaking to ensure that your policy will cover third party property damage during the course.

Riding gear

 Below is the minimum requirement for riding gear:

  • Full-face helmet, AS1698 or ECE 22.05, with visor or goggles.

  • Off-road or adventure type motorcycle boots.

  • Motorcycle gloves.

  • Motorcycle jacket with shoulder and elbow armour.

  • Motorcycle pants with knee armour.


  • Tea, coffee and water throughout the course.
  • Lunch and snacks are provided.


  • 1 day, approximately 8 hrs.
  • The course times are 8:00am - 4:00pm (Please note course finishing times are a guide only, and your course may finish at a slightly different time.)

Retrieve your Honda ID
